GOALS:

The entire workshop is devoted to capturing the best nature images possible on digital camera or film. John draws upon his decades of experience as a professional photographer to offer several methods to improve your nature photography. John will share numerous proven beginner thru advanced techniques.

Why waste your time looking for the best hidden spots to photograph moose, waterfalls, best foliage etc. Hunters and fisherman use guides all the time. Some topics we cover

 ITINERARY:

We believe in capturing the best light our workshop includes sunrise and sunset shoots (weather permitting). Early morning and later afternoon has the best lighting for photography. It’s also the time wildlife is most active. Also early morning has some other advantages less traffic and people and less wind. The day is paced to maximize photo opportunities and the schedule will be flexible to maximize getting the best light.

Thursday Afternoon: Group meeting and introductions then evening Photoshoot.

 Friday and Saturday Morning:

Sunrise Photoshoot then breakfast at a local restaurant.

Mid Day: Because of the extensive daylight hours at this northern latitude at this time of year we will have a mid day break. We can still expect long days in the field. This is a great time to relax, eat lunch, sleep to get recharged for the afternoon shoot. This would be a great time to review your images and John will be available for questions and critiques. We also will be doing an  slideshow and photo critiques.

Friday and Saturday Afternoon: We will be doing an afternoon shoot till sunset then dinner. One afternoon we will be doing a sunset boat ride on Lake Umbagog.  On the boat we hope to photograph loons, eagles, and moose and of course landscape photography.

Sunday Morning: Sunrise Photoshoot

Please note: Wildlife is extremely unpredictable. We will be in one of the top areas of New England for wildlife photography In the past we have had an extremely high success rate but we can’t guarantee we will see any particular species.

TRANSPORTATION:

Transportation to field locations is included. The meeting place will be the Lopstick Lodge in Cabins in Pittsburg NH.

  NON PARTICIPATING SPOUSES:

If space permits spouses who don’t shoot images are welcome to attend field trips are welcome to come for 1/2 price.

   WEATHER:

Rainy conditions can provide some the moodiest and diffused lighting of any photography trip. You can get some unique opportunities in these conditions that you could not get on a sunny day. The overcast sky acts like an umbrella to diffuse the light which is great for photos like waterfalls etc. Unless the weather conditions pose any danger to group we will still stay out.

FOOD:

Not included. We will visit some local restaurants.

LODGING:

The hotel is included in this tour.

 ABOUT ME:

John Slonina is a professional nature photographer who has been photographing the nature for over 25 years. He estimates he has taken over 250,000 photos.  He has a love of natural history as well. You will receive education not just in photo technique, but also in the natural world. Understanding the natural world not only increases your appreciation of nature but also helps you become a better nature photographer.

Here is a testimonial from last year

My trip to the Great North Woods with John was incredible! Because of his expert knowledge of the area, we had opportunities to photograph many animals - moose, osprey, loons, deer, fox and grouse, among others. We also spent considerable time photographing waterfalls, flowers and gorgeous landscapes. John made sure that each participant got all the individual attention necessary, and the instruction was geared to our varying skill levels. Finally, I understand histograms and the fine nuances of exposure. He was more than generous with his knowledge and could not do enough during the workshop with anything the group requested. We were also treated to a slideshow of his extraordinary bear photography. This included not only entertaining stories, but also expert tips on wildlife techniques.

The weekend turned out to be so much more than I had expected. The accommodations were excellent; the pristine area is stunning beyond description; and I felt like I made new friends. I will be watching John’s website and definitely signing up for another workshop.

Thanks, John! This was an experience I’ll remember forever, and I love the photos I brought home.

Christine

John, I had a great time at the workshop! Have too many good shots to go through but have lots of wildlife, birds and landscapes. Would definitely do it again. Looking forward to shooting with you again!
