Alaska Bear Photo Tour

Join us on a photo tour  to Lake Clark National Park. Photograph bears, puffins and other wildlife with professional photographer John Slonina. We will be visiting one of our best places to photograph bears in North America.

This tour begins in Anchorage where we will meet and fly to the beautiful Lake Clark National Park. We will be spending 6 days and 5 nights at the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge. We will be photographing numerous bears and beautiful landscapes.  

Some of the bears occasionally get within close range. Safety will be the priority. The lodge has a perfect safety record in almost 20 years. Our tour will include a bear guide from the lodge who has spent many months/years with the same bears.

The bears are in different areas. Some may be in front of the lodge. We will be transported by ATV vehicles with passenger carts to move around to the general area. This allows us to cover different areas, find the action and change the backgrounds etc.

The main goal of this trip is to photograph the bears. We will spend several hours with them in different habitats. We will also look for other wildlife. Bald Eagles are often seen and photographed in the area. Make sure you bring several flash cards as we will be taking thousands of images.

Also we will be doing one fun side trip. As an added bonus we will be taking a boat ride to a remote island where we will photograph two species of Puffin. The Horned and Tufted puffins are both beautiful and look totally different than each other. The island also hosts several nesting pairs of Kittiwakes, Common Murres, Auklets, and Oystercatchers.  We will land on the island setup our trips and photograph different behaviors of the birds.

The goal is to concentrate on photographing the wildlife in the best possible light. During the downtime in the lodge John will be teaching various techniques for post processing and editing including lightroom and photoshop. We can review your images also. We will discuss shooting strategies.

Note: There is an option to extend this trip to include the Kenai Peninsula.

The flight from Anchorage to Lake Clark National Park and back.

Lodging and meals are included.

Three meals a day are cooked by their resident chef along with home-made breads and desserts created by the resident baker.

Itinerary:

Saturday July 27: We will fly from Anchorage to Lake Clark. Please try to arrive in Anchorage on the 26th.  It will be hard to control the excitement as you will see bears right away and the great scenery.

Sunday-Wednesday: We will go out multiple times each day to photograph the bears. We will photograph several bears in different habitats. 

Except for half a day with puffin, the rest of the time will be all about bears. 

Thursday: Last day. If we prepack the night before we will have time for a quick morning shoot and then fly back to Anchorage for mid day. We suggest a late day departure incase of any bad weather. Anchorage has many flights going to and from airport.

The exact itinerary will be flexible depending on weather. As the tides, rain and wind can impact our plans. This is true for any tour to Alaska.

 

Cancellation:

If you cancel before 90 days of departure you will receive a full refund.

If you cancel within 90 days you will lose deposit amount.

Unless we are able to fill the trip. Then there will be a full refund

Please note there is no refunds for delays or cancellations because of flights, weather, or other reason before arriving or during this tour. John Slonina or Slonina Photography is not responsible for additional costs that may be incurred by such delays. We recommend trip insurance.

We have the right to cancel this tour for lack of registrants up to 120 days prior to workshop date.  In the case that we cancel the workshop your deposit and payments will be returned.  However, we do not assume responsibility for any other costs incurred by customer as a result of the cancellation.

Who should attend:

Anyone with a interest in photography from a beginner to professional photographer who has a love of being outdoors and nature. Both Digital and or Film shooters are welcome.

Group size:

Our groups are small in size and are limited to 6 people. This group size allows for flexibility in our plans if interesting and unexpected photo opportunities present themselves. Also it will allow us to work with each participate to provide complete, informative, helpful lessons.

Goals:

The entire tour is devoted to capturing the best nature images possible on digital camera or film. John draws upon his decades of experience as a professional photographer to offer several methods to improve your nature photography. John will share numerous proven beginner thru advanced techniques.

On location, John will demonstrate how you can best use your equipment. We will do our best to help you get beautiful professional high dynamic quality images which will make gorgeous prints on your wall.

Before and after each workshop we will access each participants needs, interests and skills so we can teach techniques that will help each participant. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned pro we will help you grow as a photographer. At the end of the workshop you will be able to comfortably apply these tools and start your own unique style.

John Slonina is a professional nature photographer who has been photographing the nature for over 25 years. He has been published in multiple books, magazines, and calendars.  He has a love of natural history as well. You will receive education not just in photo technique, but also in the natural world. Understanding the natural world not only increases your appreciation of nature but also helps you become a better nature photographer.
